well it has been rather hot here lately, most days have been hitting nearly 40c and we havent had a day under 30c in what feels like a lifetime.
the other day i was in my garden and my thermometer in the shade under the bottlebrush said 48c - i knew nobody would believe me so heres proof..
we have been doing anything to get out of the house, having no air conditioning it seems better to sweat it out outside and hope theres a slight breeze.
mikael went to my mums for the weekend which was good, her house has air con so at least the boy was comfortable.
Mick came down saturday and we took his petrol car down to the golfcourse, we were hoping to catch a few freshwater prawns for his fishtank like we caught for mine last week, so we took the yabby nets too. lucky we did or we would have been majorly bored, mick broke the pull cord on th car so there went that idea. we ended up catching 33 yabbies and more freaking prawns than we could count so we decided wed keep them and freeze most of them to see if they would be any good as bait. why not.
i put a fish in the tank last week that we caught from there, not realising it was a biological hazard.
after closer inspection i realized it looked a little like the terminator and that these white stick things were also growing out of my fish, so i rang aggies aquariums and after describing the offending fish he told me it was infected with parasitic worms. fucking hoo-ray.
so he told me to take the fish out onto a damp towel and use tweezers to hold th worm so we could burn th end of them and they would apparantly let go. yeh right. i am the most squeemish person ever and after trying a couple of times rather panickly and unsuccessfully (is panickly even a word??) i decided i would get somebody else to do it.
so saturday after we got home from yabbying (at like 2am) i told mick about it. being the ultra nice guy that he is, he offered to do it (mission accomplished!)
mate. those things that came out of those fish. good god, it looked like something out of alien. poor fish. needless to say, any fish i catch in the yabby nets from now on can go back into the water they came from. thank god these parasites dont affect crustaceans. so heres a photo of what the awful things looked like. i left the photo huge so you can look at in detail if you wish...
just click on th photo
Sunday we went for a cruise to garden island. so heres a couple of photos..
well i am going outside now to attempt to put this pool up so we have some way to keep cool.
wish me luck with that.
