radiators brake calipers and moronic friday afternoon drivers...

gawd all my posts lately seem to be 'on the weekend...' and this is another one lol
friday night was a pretty good sign that our weekend was going to be taken up with cars again.

During the week we replaced th radiator in th vn, only to reaslise while putting it in that apart from having no filler cap, th traditional vn cooling system is completely friggin different to whats in my baby, being the series iii. so we already had plans for saturday to chase up th radiator we actually needed and on top of that, some asshole decided th telstar didnt look quite shitty enough and it was his moralistic duty to annihalate the front end completely.

Scott was sitting at th lights friday afternoon on his way home from work, minding his own business, the light went green and th moron in front decided that th middle lane that he was in wasnt moving fast enough, so he slammed his red fairlane into reverse, backed up 4 metres (scott was 3 metres behind him) shakes his head at the ensuring collision and takes off into the left lane, off off n away. hopefully pissing himself in th process.
Lets say th car wasnt in th best shape afterwards. bonnet up in a 'v' front end pushed in flat, radiator was sitting about 4 inches in from where it should have been, not to mention two smashed headlights.
$50 and two hours later car was fixed (lucky th man is so good with metal) but that really is not the point. if youre reading this asshole i hope your taillights are smashed and you cant open your boot. fucker.

Most of saturday was spent chasing up a radiator for th vn. had no luck through th usual channels so scotti asked a mate who magically had a mate with th radiator we needed sitting in his backyard. mick came down to help us put it in. he painted the back brake drums on his vh last week and wanted to do the front drums n calipers. he already had the front struts out (hes driving around on the struts out of th wagon lol - which by th way is going to simms real soon. i asked if i could be there to take photos :( mick says he couldnt get rid of it to anyone else, this is th only way shell go. i guess for him its like giving away his girlfriend lmao) so he brought them and paint down and painted his calipers in th backyard while we were waitin for the radiator to arrive. After putting the new radiator in i think my babys ok but she still gets warm, though that may be contributed to the fact theres no actual coolant in it at th moment as we were in such a hurry to fill up th radiator before we thought of coolant. **fingers crossed thats what it is**

what mick did last week^

Sunday was spent chillin. Yes you heard right, we did pretty much nothing.
kyra n phil dropped in to see if we knew anyone looking to buy a sub so we rang mick n he came down to have a look at it. in th arvo mum n cliff dropped in which was unexpected, to say the least. must be the most cars weve had parked here in a while. apart from ours lmao
sunday dinner was chinese, how traditional :D and we went to bed quite early for once. (early being 11:30pm)

so that was our weekend. last week of school term this week, holidays again, im thinking of getting th boy looked after so i can paint his room but i am yet undecided. it needs painting but i guess the weather plays a big part in that since our heating system is pretty much non existant!
apart from that i have plans to get back into my walking again, athena has been getting restless and i must admit i have toobut i have just been so busy. hopefully things can slow down a bit now and that wont be so much a problem :D
anyway signing off again, off to make a cuppa tea.
oh and my new jacket^^ stoked.

plastic joiners shouldnt be plastic where hot car engines are concerned...

we had a mixed bag weekend.
Saturday was nice and sunny, so i took the chance to finish painting the strip on my car. finally it is done! 3 of the 5 areas are now complete. hurray. all i have to do now is fix the strip on the other side (im thinking of stripping back what ive already done and doing the whole thing like i did on the first side) and chuck some colour and clear on the panel behind the drivers front wheel. once thats done all the fiddly bits are complete and all we have to do is spray putty the new front bumper that is sitting in the shed to make it smooth like the back one, paint it and put it on the car. The one thats on the car has a broken bracket and is only managing to stay on with a little help from some green garden ties lmao
Speaking of cars, mick put his old springs back in the rear of his car as we were wondering what it would look like with his new rims. when he had the rear lowered, we thought the back was too low. the front looked better with the new rims, being larger than the simmons that were on the car the new rims filled his wheel arch nicely. so after a few hints he chucked th old ones back in and sent us a photo. what do you think now?
Mikael went to granny and pops for the weekend, both mum and cliff were working saturday so it was a toss up who he would go to work with saturday. pops won out. looks like they had a fantastic day, cliff sent some photos saturday night. i think cliff should be a part time photographer lol every one of them were set out so beautifully. heres some of them...*
*
Sunday was freak out day. i was listening to music with my car stereo out under the carport for a while and i thought 'shit, i better start the car soon, ill probably flatten the battery' so i started it (just in time, was nearly flat) to leave it running for five minutes to put some charge back and went inside to start my washing.
50 minutes later when the washing machine stopped, i went to get the clothes out th machine to hang them out and thought 'whats that noise?.... shit the cars still running!'
i ran outside to find steam absolutely pissing out from under the bonnet (excuse my language) so i turned the car off, popped the bonnet and called scotti (not too intelligbly)
anyway, water is everywhere in the engine bay, really really hot water may i add, pooling around my leads and plugs and shit, i start freaking out and scotti goes into robot mode, checking this n that.

we decide that considering
1. it was still running smoothly when i came out, regardless of the steam
2. there actually was still steam and water, which was a good thing meaning it hadnt cooked dry
and
3. youre not meant to put anything cold on hot metal (good way to crack your head - bonus points for that)

we would leave it to cool down before touching it at all and since we were due to go to my mums to have a bbq and pick up mikael that afternoon, we would look at it when we got back.
dinner at mums was nice, bbq'd pork ribs and potato bake. ended up staying til late, as usual, and had sticky date pudding for dessert.
looking at the car when we got back we could see that the problem t'was the joiner on a heater hose had broken, causing the hose from the radiator to come off the block completely, which is a good way to empty your radiator in a hurry.
Today we went and got the joiner for $11 and replaced it. it alway seems to be the ridiculous little cheap parts that will do the big damage lol
we filled the radiator and started her, she ran smooth and even, which was a really good thing, we noticed theres now a small leak in the radiator, meaning were up for a new radiator, which is not too big a deal considering i almost was facing a fried engine from getting distracted by washing. not. good.Right now it is really freaking cold and miserable, overcast and threatening to rain again like it has been on and off all day.
where the bloody hell did those sunny days we were starting to get go??
oh well im off to pick the boy up from school. ciao!

kaotic guide to spray painting

im getting sick of painting..

my advice - make sure the damn spray putty is completely dry before putting any paint on it.

i have been doing 5 areas on my car that needed touch up paint, 2 are done to my satisfaction, one is bodged and needs fixing and two are still in progress.
about that, anyone who thinks painting is an easy quick process is sadly mistaken.
first you have the work of rubbing back the flaky paint so that when you run your fingers over it feels dead smooth. then you need to mask and paper around the area youre painting to protect from overspray
*i like to paint whole panels preferably as it relieves of the need to smooth out th lines where th paint has built up next to th masking tape, although im starting to think leave a generous border around the area youre working with and use a fine wet n dry to smooth out any transition paint before the clear instead*then you need to apply the spray putty in thin repeated layers so as to build up the surface under the flaked paint to the height of the rest of the paint. make damn sure each layer is dry before adding the next as wet putty on dry putty will make th dry putty wet again and you want it to dry evenly, not end up with a patch of blue mud on your car that takes 5 days to harden properly.
then you need to sand it again, making sure it is absolutely friggin perfectly smooth before applying any paint whatsoever, you want to make it as smooth as humanely (or not) possible because paint will exaggerate any minute indent or lump.
apply a couple of thin coats of primer
let the primer dry properly before running over it with a smooth wet n dry paper. a 2000 is great

*when using wet and dry between painting, dry the paint surface thoroughly afterwards and leave in sun for a bit before painting again*

apply your colour evenly and in a thin coat. let the paint dry so that it doesnt have that wet shine and then add another coat. dont worry if it doesnt look right, it will after a few coats, the paint comes out like a powder

DO NOT TOUCH - EVeN If YoU THiNK IT iS DRy..

(if you really have to for some reason, press your fingernail into the paint thats collected on the masking tape around the area you are painting to see if it still dents)

once it looks evenly coloured, leave it for an hour or so if its a warm day (which it should be because you are an idiot if youre painting in under 25c weather) before adding a few coats of clear over the top to protect your new paint.

so that is my kaotic guide to spray painting. good luck! and dont blame me if you fuck up lmao
*a friend told me a handy tip th other day, she dropped in while i was painting, she said if i shake the hell out of the can and then leave it in the sun for five minutes, then shake the hell out of it again, it warms the paint so it mixes properly and runs smooth and you dont get as much spatter*

and you should never use the first spray on your car, test it on the grass first :)

sunny saturday

this afternoons pre-sunset lol
had a great day today! got a knock on th door this morning before i was even up n dressed, it was corey and his little mikhail, after rudely forgetting to offer coffee i rang mick to see what if he was still comin down like we planned friday night and he was already on his way down, so that was cool. after corey left we did some more on my car and he showed me a new wax product in a can hes found, brought my mags up so shiny! forgot to take a photo - d'oh
scott got home about 5ish n mick had to head off so then we walked down th chip shop together to get a hamburger and now were chillin for 20 minutes before heading off again to see glen, who i caught up with yesterday for the first time in nearly a year. so im off to get a drink out th fridge and put my shoes back on. bye!

oh and i bought a new top th other day, and its not something scotti could take out my wardrobe n wear! not that he wears my clothes, he was complaining that all i ever wear is mens clothes...

where do i start

ahem where do i start, i have been really slack lately keeping up with my blog posts, we have been really busy and it doesnt seem like i have time to scratch myself let alone sit on th computer for an hour! lol
We have been doing alot of work on the cars (whats new, i think even if there wasnt work to be done on the cars we'd be able to find something) ive been painting all the stone chips and any scratches or flaky paint is getting corrected, so soon my car will be looking smick and white like it should. my boot finally lines up properly, th guy that owned th car before me reversed into a tree and the back end was slightly out of shape. not that th average joe wouldve noticed as he did take it to a crash repair.
she got a real good clean out last week, long overdue might i add, degreased the engine, washed the outside, washed inside the doors, vaccummed and cleaned my interior. so the car looked and felt like new, which lasted all of 2 days. hurray.
scotts been working alot, i hardly see him lately, he starts at 6 and finishes at 3, although some days he has been working as late as 8 and coming home tired and grumpy, its good though, we need all th cash flow we can get at the moment. too many bills, not enough moolah! lol
mikael seems to be doing better at school, although i think this is because he has a new teacher, th old teacher was really young but th new teacher has a grandmotherly attitude, nice but tough when she has to be, which i think mikael has responded well to. theres hope yet, he might end up being prime minister one day lmao
anyway, this is probably th most boring post ive ever written so ill end it on a funny note. Kimba shivers all th time outside, she is small afterall so i guess th cold would go right through her, anyway i was at an op shop with my mum and saw this. i had to buy it for her lol
